What Is the FAREPAY Card?

The FAREPAY Card is the primary way to pay when you ride UTA. It’s a smart, reloadable electronic card linked to the UTA fares system through the card readers on buses and train platforms, the UTA On Demand app, and handheld devices used by UTA Fare Inspectors.

The FAREPAY Card is accepted on every UTA service except Paratransit (which is only available to qualified riders. Learn more here).

If you ride UTA regularly, the FAREPAY Card will save you money (see fare capping details below). The card has no reload fees, dormancy fees, or ongoing charges. There is a one-time card issuance fee of $3 for new FAREPAY Card purchases, which will be refunded as a FAREPAY account credit for riders qualifying for reduced fare.

To pay with your FAREPAY Card, tap on and tap off each time you ride. The card calculates how much to charge based on your mode of travel and how close you are to the fare cap. Your card charges fare by where you tap. Be sure to tap on and off to avoid being charged more than the value of your trip.

On the bus, tap the card on the card reader when you board and when you exit.

On TRAX, tap on when you board and tap off when you reach your destination — you don't need to tap when transferring from one TRAX line to another.

On FrontRunner, tap on when you enter the station platform and tap off when you reach your destination.

For UTA On Demand, add your FAREPAY Card information as your payment method in the UTA On Demand app.

When asked by UTA Police or Fare Inspectors for your ticket or pass, show them your FAREPAY Card.

You can add money to a FAREPAY Card using any of the following methods:
